Ransomware has evolved far beyond simple encryption. Today, Data Leak Sites (DLS) have become a critical part of the double extortion strategy, where attackers publish stolen data to pressure victims into paying. Understanding this ecosystem is essential for anyone in cybersecurity.
That’s why I created RansomSim, an open-source project designed to simulate the behavior of ransomware DLS in a safe, controlled environment.

Why RansomSim?
- Educate security professionals and students about real-world extortion techniques
- Evangelize awareness of ransomware evolution and its impact on organizations
- Provide a hands-on learning tool for training and research without real-world risk

Main Features of RansomSim:
- Realistic DLS Simulation: Mimics the look and feel of actual ransomware leak sites
- Configurable Scenarios: Create different extortion cases for training and awareness
- Safe Environment: No real data is leaked—perfect for labs and classrooms
- Open-Source & Extensible: Customize and contribute to improve the project
- Educational Focus: Designed for teaching, workshops, and awareness campaigns

This project is not about promoting fear, it’s about building knowledge and resilience. By simulating these sites, we can better understand attacker tactics, improve awareness, and prepare the next generation of defenders.
